You should contact Dr. raymond McNeil (mcneilr@ere.umontreal.ca) about
night scopes, since he used these techniques for studying shorebirds in
Venezuela. I personaly used one of these in the mid-80s (see Auk 106:
94-101 or Ibis 131: 69-79), but I suppose there are now new ones on the
market.
Concerning emetics, I think you could use tartar emetic (see Condor 96:
98-104, 97: 897-902). I recently used this technique with Yellow Rails
and was able to get a lot of information on the food habits of the
species. These results will appear in the next issue of Wilson Bulletin
(vol. 109: 702-710).
I hope that this will help you.
Good luck
