This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Tue., March 30 with reports of
RUFF, GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE, EURASIAN WIGEON, TUFTED DUCK
(Review List), GLAUCOUS, ICELAND and LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS,
CLAY-COLORED SPARROW, seasonal arrivals and local reports of
interest. The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was not reported to the tape
this week for the first time, but it wasn't known at tape time if
anyone went to look. [Still present 3/27 according to e-mail
report this morning --transcriber's note]
A REEVE was at the Pedricktown Causeway in Salem County March 27,
and the CLAY-COLORED SPARROW on Money Island Road in Salem was seen
the same day.
A GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen with 20 Canadas March 27 on
Rte 1 off the jughandle with Carnegie Drive near the Canal Point
development in a cornfield.
A female TUFTED DUCK was seen with a flock of scaup on Old Sam's
Pond, Point Pleasant March 30. The EURASIAN WIGEON continued on
Wreck Pond March 27.
At Sandy Hook, two LESSER BLACKBACKS, One ICELAND and one GLAUCOUS
GULL were at North Beach pavilion. Also at Sandy Hook, the
BARRED OWL is calling again by the campground; the hawk watch
there had PEREGRINE and MERLIN March 29; and BLUE-WINGED TEAL
were on North Pond.
Spruce Run Reservoir March 27 had a good flight of RING-BILLED
GULLS, about 1100, with two LESSER BLACKBACKS and nine BONAPARTE'S
GULLS; most of these birds were at Mulhockaway, where there was
also BLUE-WINGED TEAL among the GREEN-WINGS. Elsewhere on the
Reservoir, there were about 150 wigeon, all three MERGANSERs and
OSPREY. Round Valley had both SCAUP, BUFFLEHEAD and RINGNECK in the
skating area.
Widely reported moving were YELLOWLEGS, PHOEBE, both KINGLETS,
CREEPER, TREE SWALLOW, and FOX SPARROW. CHIPPING SPARROW was in
Long Valley March 30.
