This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for March 24 with reports of
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE, SEDGE WREN, local reports, seasonal arrivals,
and woodcock displays.

The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was still present on the wires on East
Point Rd., Heislerville on March 20, in view for more than a half
hour at midday (still no call or song reported).

SEDGE WRENS were reported singing in the wee hours (3-4 a.m.) at
Hansey Creek Rd. and Turkey Point March 19.

Cumberland County March 20 had good numbers of waterfowl and 6
EAGLES on the lower Maurice River, and excellent numbers of
waterfowl at Turkey Point and the PSE&G boardwalks, where SHOVELER
were especially common. GREEN-WINGED TEAL were everywhere in
numbers. Also at Turkey Point, AMERICAN BITTERN, MEADOWLARK,
singing CLAPPER RAILS and 5 or 6 displaying WOODCOCK at the usual
place on the left bend in Turkey Point Rd. between 6 and 6:45 p.m.

Other good WOODCOCK displays were reported this week at Pleasant
Plains Rd., Great Swamp, and also in Long Valley at the
intersection of Coleman and Bartley Rds., in the field across from
the cemetery. Display time this week should be 6-6:45 p.m.

Widely reported this week in addition to the waterfowl were GREAT
EGRET, TREE SWALLOW, PHOEBE, GOLDEN-CROWNED KINGLET, CREEPER, FOX
SPARROW and OSPREY. Several hundred RUDDY DUCKS were on
Assunpink, along with 3 GREAT EGRETS. BALD EAGLES were at the
Nuke Plant and Mannington Marsh in Salem March 21; 40 RUSTY
BLACKBIRDS were at Pedricktown, and a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL
was at the Rte. 45 junction with 540 in a ringbill flock.
Another LESSER BLACKBACK was on the lower Maurice River March 20.

GREATER and LESSER YELLOWLEGS were found at Turkey Point, Stow
Creek and the PSE&G boardwalks in Cumberland. Pleasant Plains Road
in Great Swamp March 20 had PINTAIL, RINGNECKS and HOODED
MERGANSER. Fifteen HOODED MERGANSER were on Echo Lake in
Mountainside March 19. A EURASIAN GREEN-WINGED TEAL was at Brig
March 22. Lake Parsippany had over 100 RUDDY DUCKS on March 18,
along with a few other species.
