This is the Voice of NJ Audubon for Tue March 9 with reports of
TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE, EURASIAN WIGEON, HARLEQUIN, ROUGH-LEGGED
HAWK, LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL, SNOW BUNTING, waterfowl, local
reports and seasonal migrants.
The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was still on East Point Road at 1.2
miles beyond Main St., Heislerville. EURASIAN WIGEONS were
reported at the Coast Guard Pond, Ocean Drive, Cape May, and also
at Wreck Pond in Sea Girt. At Barnegat Light March 6, there were
21 HARLEQUIN and 600 OLDSQUAW, and 10 OYSTERCATCHERS. The same
day, a dark ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK and a GREATER YELLOWLEGS were at
the bridge to nowhere,in Manahawkin, along with two PEREGRINES.
A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was at the boat launch on Spruce Run
Reservoir among 400 RINGBILLS, and two SNOW BUNTINGS were in the
parking lot there March 7. Round Valley Res. had GREATER and
LESSER SCAUP, RING-NECKS and BUFFLEHEAD.
On March 6, there were 100's of CANVASBACK, SHOVELER,
GREEN-WINGED TEAL and GADWALL between HMEC and Kearny, with small
numbers of other ducks; GREAT EGRET, SNIPE, and GREATER
YELLOWLEGS were among the other arrivals.
A PEREGRINE was reported this week from Margate bridge, where a
TRI-COLORED HERON wintered, and another PEREGRINE was reported
from Brigantine NWR. RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was reported from
Dismal Swamp, Metuchen.
Scherman Hoffman on March 8 had FOX SPARROW, GOLDEN- and RUBY-
CROWNED KINGLETS, BROWN CREEPER and BLUEBIRDS.
