This is the Sunday, April 4th, update of Big Country birding news,
sponsored by the Big Country Audubon Society.
Sightings in western Callahan County on Saturday the 3rd include two
VERMILION FLYCATCHERS (Pyrocephalus rubinus); three RED-HEADED
WOODPECKERS (Melanerpes erythrocephalus); one RED-SHOULDERED HAWK (Buteo
lineatus); one SAGE THRASHER (Oreoscoptes montanus) and one BLACK-AND-
WHITE WARBLER (Mniotilta varia).
Also on Saturday the 3rd, two FRANKLIN'S GULLS (Larus pipixcan) were
seen at Kirby Lake in Abilene.
A WINTER WREN (Troglodytes troglodytes) and a BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHER
(Polioptila caerulea) were seen on Rivercrest Dr. in Abilene on the 4th.
The first reported SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHER (Tyrannus forficatus) of
the season were seen on Thursday the first.
