With the warmer temperatures and southerly flow some spring migrants are
beginning to show up.
There was a YELLOW RAIL at Clinton Lake March 27. Also there were a SURF
SCOTER, 13 COMMON LOONS, 13 AMERICAN PIPITS, 70 COMMON SNIPE, and a male
SMITH'S LONGSPUR. A HERMIT THRUSH was at Urbana on March 27.
March 20 two BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS were in Coles County and a Surf Scoter was
at Lake Shelbyville.
400 WHITE PELICANS were in Fulton County March 21 and a PEREGRINE FALCON was
near Spring Lake.
2000 White Pelicans were in the Mound Lake and Crane Lake area March 28.
Both YELLOWLEGS were there also.
A PURPLE MARTIN was at Greenview March 28th.
In Sangamon County a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH was at Lake Springfield March
28th. Saturday March 27th a VESPER SPARROW was near Sangchris. On March 29th
a BROWN THRASHER was at Sangchris.
In Southern Illinois, Louisiana Waterthrush, YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER, and
YELLOW-CROWNED NIGHT HERON were seen in Jackson County March 28th. A
WHIP-POOR-WILL was calling at Makanda on March 28th. There was a Cattle
Egret at St. Claire County March 25th.
