Greetings this is the Rio Grande Valley Audubon Alert for Monday morning
March 29, 1999 sponsored by the Frontera Audubon Society of South Texas
and the Valley Chamber of Commerce.
HOOK-BILLED KITES (Chondrohierax uncinatus) are being seen at Chapeno.
The birds were recently seen soaring over the boat ramp area itself.
Also at Chapeno look for Brown Jay (Cyanocorax morio) at the El Rio RV
Park.
Also HOOK-BILLED KITES are being seen at Bentsen State Park, typically
they are beeing seen over the east bath rooms between 9 am and 10:30 am.
Again up river RED-BILLED PIGEONS (Columba flavirostris) are being seen
at Salineno on the island up river from the boat ramp itself.
Back at Bentsen State Park a TROPICAL PARULA (Parula pitiayumi) is
singing at Eagle Pond. Another TROPICAL PARULA is present at Anzulduas
County Park. The bird is typically being seen in between the main bath
room and the main boat ramp.
Back at Bentsen State Park the BLUE BUNTING* (Cyanocompsa parellina)
Female continues at site #18.
FULVOUS WHISTLING-DUCK (Dendrocygna bicolor) are present at Llano Grande
south of Weslaco on the main resaca there.
KING RAIL (Rallus elegans) is present at Pintail Lake at Santa Ana NWR;
and again at Pintail Lake look for GROOVE-BILLED ANI (Crotophaga
sulcirostris). Other GROOVE-BILLED ANIS are present at the resaca trail
loop at the Sabal Palm Grove in Brownsville.
WHITE-COLLARED SEEDEATERS (Sporophila torqueola) are present in Zapata
by the pond next to the library, and in San Ygnacio down at the end of
Washington Street near the river.
