updated Wednesday, March 24th.
On March 23rd, an immature SABINE'S GULL was seen in the Wade Creek
branch of Hillsdale Lake (Miami County, KS) by Mark Land and Aaron Mitchell.
The SABINE'S GULL was flying toward the main part of the lake.
A MUTE SWAN was seen in the Slough Creek arm of Perry Lake (Jefferson
County, KS) on March 21st, reports Buddy Watkins (sp?). The swan has
not been relocated.
Galen Pittman reports an early GREAT EGRET at the Kaw Valley Fish Farms
north of the Lawrence Airport (Douglas County, KS) on March 23rd. Galen
also reports that ducks are 'everywhere' around the Lawrence Airport and
that a LESSER YELLOWLEGS and COMMON SNIPE were seen in a shallowly
flooded field on U.S. 24 near the airport.
At the Delaware Marsh at Perry Lake (Jefferson County, KS) on the 23rd,
Pittman reported a TREE SWALLOW, 4 PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, and
2 immature BALD EAGLES.
Mark Land and Dan Elliot found 2 breeding-plumaged COMMON LOONS at
Shawnee Mission Lake (Johnson County, KS) on March 22nd.
In the last four to five days, AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER have been reported
from the St. Louis and Columbia, MO areas as well as in Marais De Cygne
Wildlife Area (Linn County, KS).
An immature GLAUCOUS GULL was seen at Clinton Lake (Douglas County, KS)
by Alexis Powell on March 20th.
