Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha , for Thursday, March 25th.
In central Nebraska in Kearney County, the COMMON CRANE has not been
reported since the 22nd. To get to the area where it's been seen, take
the I-80 Exit 285 and go south about 3 miles. For updates on the Common
Crane, call the Audubon Rowe Sanctuary at 308 468-5282. Please report
any sightings of the Common Crane to the Birdline.
In Adams County, a WHOOPING CRANE is being seen about 1 to 2 miles
northwest of Prosser. On the 24th in Hastings, a CAROLINA WREN was heard
calling on the southwest corner of the Community College campus.
In Buffalo County, a EURASIAN COLLARED-DOVE is regularly visiting a
feeder at 30th Street & Avenue C in Kearney.
In Phelps County at Funk Lagoon on the 21st, 10 species of waterfowl were
seen including 2,000 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and 2 MARSH WRENS. On
the 20th, a YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD was spotted about 2 miles west & 2
miles north of Funk Lagoon.
In Hamilton County on the 24th, 12 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS were found at Deep
Well WMA in the extreme western part of the county. Also on the 24th, 2
GREAT EGRETS were seen west of Henderson.
In eastern Nebraska in Knox County on the 20th, an AMERICAN BLACK DUCK, a
GOLDEN EAGLE & a MERLIN were seen at the Niobrara marshes. Also on the
20th, 2 TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRES were seen in the hills south of Lewis &
Clark Lake. In Antelope County on the 21st, 9 SHORT-EARED OWLS were
found 3 miles south & 1 mile east of Creighton.
In Lancaster County on the 21st , the following species were found at
Branched Oak Lake: 3 RED- BREASTED MERGANSERS, a BALD EAGLE, a PEREGRINE
FALCON, 7 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS, a BARRED OWL, 2 LONG-EARED OWLS & 2
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS.
In Douglas County on the 24th, 12 WOOD DUCKS, a FOX SPARROW, 3 SWAMP
SPARROWS, & 9 SONG SPARROWS were seen in Dodge Park north of Omaha. Also
on the 24th, 3 PINE SISKINS were seen along the North River Road.
In Burt County on the 25th, LESSER SCAUP & RUDDY DUCKS were found at
Summit Lake near Tekamah.
In Iowa on the 24th north of Crescent, a NORTHERN GOSHAWK was seen at
Hitchcock Nature Area.
