This is the Chicago Audubon Society bird report for Wednesday,
March 24th at noon.
A WESTERN GREBE was seen Tuesday off the south side of the
55th Street Promontory.
A WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE was seen Friday through Tuesday just off
the south bridge of Wooded Island.
On Saturday 4580 SANDHILL CRANES were seen migrating over
Westchester, and another observer reported 3466 CRANES over
several different areas.
A SNOW GOOSE and BLUEBIRD were seen Saturday at Montrose.
An adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was seen Friday on the
Aquarium breakwater and a first year GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULL
was north of the breakwater on Saturday.
A NORTHERN SHRIKE and six WOODCOCKS were seen Saturday at
Greene Valley Forest Preserve.
The first PURPLE MARTIN of the spring was seen Sunday at
Illinois Beach State Park. TREE SWALLOWS were reported this
week from several areas.
The TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE was still at the Morton Arboretum
on Sunday. For details on this bird call the DuPage hotline

Ten BLACK SCOTERS were seen Saturday in Indiana at Beverly
Shores just east of Kemil Road.
A pair of PEREGRINE FALCONS were seen this week in downtown
Evanston near Sherman and Church Streets.
Hundreds of RING-NECKED DUCKS, REDHEADS and CANVASBACKS are
being seen on Cedar Lake.
Three COMMON LOONS were on Diamond Lake on Sunday and another
LOON was on Gages Lake on Monday.
