Howdy, welcome to the Monday March 2, 1999 update of the Coastal Bend
Rare Bird Alert sponsored by the Audubon Outdoor Club of Corpus Christi
Saturday March 20 near the intersection of Graham Road and Laguna Shores
in Flower Bluff, Judith Reader reports an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD (Calypte
anna), NORTHERN PARULA (Parula americana), YELLOW-THROATED WARBLER
(Dendroica dominica) and a PALM WARBLER (Dendroica palmarum).
At Welder Park in Sinton Lee Hutchings reports SWAINSON'S HAWK (Buteo
swainsoni), a SWALLOW-TAILED KITE (Elanoides forficatus), and a SCISSOR-
TAILED FLYCATCHER (Tyrannus forficatus).
At Blucher near downtown Corpus Christi Mel and Arlie Cooksey report
four GRAY CATBIRD (Dumetella carolinensis), four HOODED WARBLER
(Wilsonia citrina), 4 BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER (Mniotilta varia) and a
NASHVILLE WARBLER (Vermivora ruficapilla). Also two SPOTTED TOWHEE
(Pipilo maculatus) and 1 female EASTERN TOWHEE (Pipilo
erythrophthalmus).
At Packery Channel on March 20 in the small ditch behind the pump
station there was a very well scrutinized NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH (Seiurus
noveboracensis). This is an exception March record for Northern
Waterthrush for the Coastal Bend. The next day a LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH
(Seiurus motacilla) had taken its place.
