Greetings this is the Rio Grande Valley Audubon Alert for Friday morning
March 19, 1999 sponsored by the Frontera Audubon Society of South Texas
and the Valley Chamber of Commerce.

The BLACK-TAILED GULL* (Larus crassirostris) continues at the
Brownsville Dump, it was seen yesterday morning at 12 noon precisely
near site #43 on the burm where they are dumping garbage. Also in that
same area an adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (Larus fuscus) was also
present.

At Santa Ana NWR a HERMIT WARBLER (Dendroica occidentalis) is being
reported from the junction of B and C Trails between Willow Lake #1 and
#2. also at Santa Ana CLAY-COLORED ROBIN (Turdus grayi) were seen near
the visitor center feeding station and also on B trail near the bridge.
For more specific directions check with the refuge staff. Also at Santa
Ana GROOVE-BILLED ANI (Crotophaga sulcirostris) are being seen near
Pintail Lake.

WOOD DUCK (Aix sponsa) are present on the Sabal Palm Grove Resaca, I
should say one Wood Duck is present Sabal Palm Groove Resaca.

At Anzulduas County Park HERMIT WARBLER (Dendroica occidentalis)
continue especially near the bathrooms that are in the northeast corner
or along the levee. Also present at Anzulduas is a TROPICAL PARULA
(Parula pitiayumi). A ZONE-TAILED HAWK (Buteo albonotatus) has been seen
sporadically over the main picnic area. A NORTHERN BEARDLESS-TYRANNULET
(Camptostoma imberbe) is also present at Anzulduas, again near the north
east bathroom.

Further up river WHITE-COLLARED SEEDEATER (Sporophila torqueola) are
being seen near the Zapata Library pond and also in San Ygnacio at the
end of Washington Street down by the river.

BROWN JAYS (Cyanocorax morio) are present near the El Rio RV in Chapeno.
In Salineno look for RED-BILLED PIGEONS (Columba flavirostris),
especially on the Island which is up river from the Salineno Boat Ramp.

At Bentsen State Park, a female BLUE BUNTING* (Cyanocompsa parellina) is
present at site #18 and also HOOK-BILLED KITES (Chondrohierax uncinatus)
are being seen consistently near sunset at the trail head of the Rio
Grande Hiking Trail.

At Laguna Atascosa NWR a SPOTTED TOWHEE (Pipilo maculatus) is present at
the visitor's center pond.
