Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha , for Wednesday, March 17th.

In central Nebraska in Kearney County, the COMMON CRANE was seen again
today, presumably in the same area it has previously been seen. We have
no further details on the sighting at this time. To find the area where
is has been previously seen, take the I-80 Exit 285 and go south about 2
miles to the Elm Island Rd. Go east on Elm Island Rd. to the
T-intersection and go south to X Rd. For updates on the Common Crane,
call the Audubon Rowe Sanctuary at 308 468-5282. Please report any
sightings of the Common Crane to the Birdline.

In Hall County on the 14th, a blue phase ROSS'S GOOSE was spotted 1 mile
west of Doniphan on the Platte River Rd. Also on the 14th, a
CHESTNUT-COLLARED LONGSPUR was spotted northwest of Grand Island.

In Harlan County on the 13th the following species were seen at Harlan
Reservoir: an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, 9 species of ducks, including 450
CANVASBACKS, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, a KILLDEER & 175 CEDAR WAXWINGS.

In Phelps County on the 15th, 2 HOODED MERGANSERS were found at Funk
Lagoon.

In eastern Nebraska in Seward County on the 14th, a COMMON LOON was seen
at Twin Lakes SWMA near Pleasant Dale.

In Iowa south of Council Bluffs on the 14th, a HORNED GREBE, 5 HOODED
MERGANSERS, 2 RED- BREASTED MERGANSERS and a FRANKLIN'S GULL were seen at
Lake Manawa. Also seen at Manawa on the 14th, were 3 AMERICAN WOODCOCKS
displaying in the grassy area around the parking lots southeast of the
boat launch area and north of the perimeter road.
