This is the Chicago Audubon Society bird report for Monday, March 15, 1999, at
1:00 PM.

NORTHERN SHRIKES were still present last weekend at Green Valley Forest
Preserve and at the north unit
of Illinois Beach State Park near Sand Pond.

THAYER’S GULLS were also present Saturday at Sand Pond and Montrose Harbor.

The TOWNSEND’S SOLITAIRE that was at the Morton Arboretum was relocated on
Saturday along with a
flock of Robins along the south shore of Meadow Lake near the Visitors Center.
This is 1/4 mile west of
where it was seen in early February.

TURKEY VULTURES were reported last week in several areas

An early GREAT EGRET was at McGinnis Slough on March 10th.

A MOCKINGBIRD was in a Naperville backyard on March 12th.

A female OLD SQUAW was seen in Burnham Harbor on Sunday.

A TUFTED TITMOUSE was singing at Ryerson Conservation Area Sunday.

In the Palos area Saturday were 95 RING-NECKED DUCKS at Horsetail Slough and 2
HORNED
GREBES and all 3 mergansers were at Saganaskee Slough.

This Friday, March 19th, the Chicago Audubon Society will be hosting a program
on sparrow identification
being presented by Jon Dunne. The lecture will be held at the North Park
Village Nature Center 5801 N.
Pulaski in Chicago. There will be refreshments served starting at 7:00 PM and
the lecture will start at 7:30
PM. There will be no charge but please preregister at 773-539-6793.
