Greetings this is the Rio Grande Valley Audubon Alert for Monday morning
March 15, 1999 sponsored by the Frontera Audubon Society of South Texas
and the Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The BLACK-TAILED GULL was not seen over the weekend, we'll keep you
posted if that bird does return anytime during this week.
A female BLUE BUNTING* (Cyanocompsa parellina) is being seen at Bentsen
State Park near Trailer site #18. Also at Bentsen look for HOOK-BILLED
KITE (Chondrohierax uncinatus), especially at sunset at the entrance to
the Rio Grande Hiking Trail.
At Santa Ana NWR a TROPICAL PARULA (Parula pitiayumi), actually two
birds are being seen along the Resaca Trail, also in that same area look
for NORTHERN BEARDLESS-TYRANNULET (Camptostoma imberbe).
At the Sabal Palm Groove in Brownsville LEAST GREBES (Tachybaptus
dominicus) are present on the main resaca, HOODED ORIOLE (Icterus
cucullatus) near the entrance to the park at the office area. At the
Brownsville dump a LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL (Larus fuscus) was seen on
Saturday.
At Anzulduas County Park two HERMIT WARBLERS (Dendroica occidentalis)
are still present; typically seen near the northeast bath room, in that
same flock look for BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER (Dendroica nigrescens).
Also at Anzulduas look for TROPICAL PARULA (Parula pitiayumi) between
the boat ramp and the main bath room. Recently a ZONE-TAILED HAWK (Buteo
albonotatus), actually on Saturday, was seen at the edge of the picnic
area near the river, again at Anzulduas County Park.
On Saturday two ZONE-TAILED HAWK (Buteo albonotatus) flew over the hawk
watch at Santa Ana NWR. At Laguna Atascosa NWR a WESTERN GREBE
(Aechmophorus occidentalis) was recently seen near Osprey over look.
Up river at the El Rio RV Park at Chapeno look for BROWN JAYS
(Cyanocorax morio). RED-BILLED PIGEONS (Columba flavirostris) are
present in Salineno looking up river from the boat ramp towards the
large island in the middle of the river.
We thank you for calling the Audubon Alert if you have any questions or
would like to leave a message please feel free to do so at the sound of
the tone also ask you leave your name and phone number in case we have
to get back with you and good birding.
