Welcome to an update of the Nebraska Birdline, sponsored by the Audubon
Society of Omaha , for Sunday, March 14th.
In central Nebraska in Kearney County, the COMMON CRANE, was seen again
on the 14th on County Road X between County Roads 39 and 40. Take the
I-80 Exit 285 and go south about 2 miles to the Elm Island Rd. Go east
on Elm Island Rd. to the T-intersection and go south to X Rd. For
updates on the Common Crane, call the Audubon Rowe Sanctuary at 308
468-5282.
In Harlan County on the 13th the following species were seen at Harlan
Reservoir: an AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN, 9 species of ducks, including 450
CANVASBACKS, a ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK, a KILLDEER & 175 CEDAR WAXWINGS.
In Kearney County on the 13th about 5.5 miles north of Wilcox, ROSS'S
GEESE, WHITE-FRONTED GEESE & a flock of LAPLAND LONGSPURS were found.
In Hall County on the 12th, a possible sandhill/whooping crane hybrid was
spotted on the Alda Road. It was a large white crane with gray
feathering on the nape of the neck and lacked black primaries.
In Phelps County on the 11th, a CINNAMON TEAL was found at Funk Lagoon.
