Coffey County:
Mick McHugh reported a GRASSHPPER SPARROW just north of New Strawn (64 A5)
on March 6. Bill Trelk reported 20-30 Bonaparte's Gulls at Flint Hills NWR
on the same date.

Crawford County:
Robert Mangile reported a EURASIAN COLLARED DOVE in Girard (79 B8) on March
7. He also observed 20 CATTLE EGRETS just west of the intersection of
Highways 69 and 96 on March 1.

Linn County:
Mike Gearhart observed 60+ COMMON SNIPE, 2 EASTERN PHOEBES, and a PRAIRIE
FALCON at Marais des Cygnes on March 6.

Bourbon and Neosho Counties:
Jim Ausemens observed a SHORT-EARED OWL and an EASTERN PHOEBE at the
Hollister Wildlife Area (66 G3) on March 5. He also reported a PRAIRIE
FALCON from the Neosho Wildlife Refuge (78 B5) on February 28.

Pawnee County:
Scott Seltman observed a MERLIN on March 3 from Pawnee County (58 ??). On
March 2 he observed a single SMITH's LONGSPUR in Pawnee Co.

Russell County:
Mike Rader observed 6 or more MOUNTAIN BLUEBIRDS at the Otoe Park Area of
Wilson Reservoir, and a LECONTE'S SPARROW and a few DOUBLE-CRESTED
CORMORANTS on March 3.

Sedgwick and Butler Counties:
Pete Janzen observed 3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL just east of Maize on March 2
(Sedgwick Co. 61 G9). On February 28 he reported a flock of SMITH'S
LONGSPURS just south of El Dorado Lake, about .5 mile south of the
intersection of K-177 and Shady Access Rd. The longspurs had been reported
a week earlier by Don Vannoy.

Barton County:
Lisa Edwards observed 10 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS at Cheyenne Bottoms on
March 1.

Harvey County:
Cheryl Miller reported an EASTERN PHOEBE FROM Harvey County (61 C9) on Feb. 27.

Douglas County:
Aaron Mitchell and Matt Gearhardt observed the GREATER ROADRUNNER at the
Smith's residence near Lawrence on February 27.

Linn County:
McHugh and Galen Pittman observed 2 BLUE-WINGED TEAL and 6 RED-BREASTED
MERGANSERS, and hundreds of HOODED MERGANSERS at Marais des Cynes on
February 27. They also found a PRAIRIE FALCON 3 miles south of La Cygne
Lake on February 27.

Lyon County:
Dan Larson reported an EASTERN PHOEBE at Pomona Lake (52 D2), and SMITH'S
LONGSPURS at Lyon County State Lake ( 51 E7) on February 27.

Seward County:
Lisa Edwards observed a MERLIN in Seward Co. (68 ??) on February 26.

PURPLE MARTINS:
Bert McLard observed a male PURPLE MARTIN at his residence in Wichita on
March 8. Ken Bradstreet observed a male and female on March 9 in Emporia.

SHOREBIRDS:
Seltman reported 35 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 1 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, and 2
LESSER YELLOWLEGS at Cheyenne Bottoms on March 8. Janzen observed a
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHER, 9 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, a BAIRD'S SANDPIPER at a small
wetland 2 miles north of Colwich on 167 th St. West on March 8. Marie
Plinsky and Kathy McDowell observed a YELLOWLEGS sp. on March 7 at Lone Star
Lake (52 A3). McHugh reported a LEAST SANDPIPER at Melvern Lake (51 F9) on
March 6. Phil Wedge reported AMERICAN WOODCOCKS peenting on March 5 at Lone
Star. Steve Rhoades reported 2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS from Hillsdale Lake (53
D7) on February 27. Brad Williamson reported as many as 10 AMERICAN
WOODCOCKS peenting on February 28 near Olathe.

SANDHILL CRANES have been reported in large numbers from the western half of
the state.
