Greetings,
This is the Michigan Statewide Weekly Bird Summary for Thursday, March
11, 1999. This report is sponsored by the BERRIEN BIRDING CLUB.
Fewer reports were received this week, no doubt due to the return of
winter-like weather conditions last weekend....
In WAYNE COUNTY -- at least 1 LONG-EARED OWLS were still reported
present as of March 10 at Lake Erie Metropark. It was seen along the
nature trail that starts across the parking lot from the Marshland
Museum.
In MUSKEGON COUNTY -- 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS were seen south of the Muskegon
Wastewater System on March 10. They were seen 1 mile south of M-46 at
the intersection of Swanson and Laketon Roads. (These roads are
apparently unmarked at this location....)
In EMMET COUNTY -- a flock of 50 BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS was reported along
East Bluff Drive in Harbor Springs on March 5.
In CHIPPEWA COUNTY -- BOREAL CHICKADEES were reported again last weekend
along Basnau Road in the Hulbert Bog. 2 others were seen along 71/2
Mile Road, just west of Ojala Road (which is about 2 miles east of
M-221). Small numbers of WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were reported last
weekend from the Hulbert Bog and from Whitefish Point. SHARP-TAILED
GROUSE were reported south of Sault Ste. Marie to the west of Riverside
Road on both 9 Mile and 12 Mile Roads.
That seems to be it for now. The next scheduled update of this report
will occur on March 18. To report sightings leave a message after the
tone or call Pat Underwood at Love Creek Nature Center at (616)
471-2617.
Thanks for calling and good birding.
