Welcome to the Bird Alert of Kansas City, a service of Burroughs Audubon
updated Saturday, March 6th.

On March 6th, 2 adult TRUMPETER SWANS were found on a small lake at the
Independence Airport (Jackson County, MO). These swans wore green neck
collars with the numbers 0F4 and 0F5. The Independence Airport is off of
R.D. Mize Road east of Missouri 291 in eastern Independence.

James Zellmer reports very early CHIPPING SPARROWS at the TWA Overhaul
Base near KCI Airport (Platte County, MO) for the last ten days.

David Staehling visited Four Rivers Conservation Area (Vernon County, MO)
on March 4th, and reports 35 COMMON SNIPE, 100-plus KILLDEER,
3 BLUE-WINGED TEAL, 1 DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT, and
19 AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS.

On March 2nd, Evelyn Johnson reported from Schell-Osage Conservation
Area (Vernon and St. Clair Counties, MO), 3 TRUMPETER SWANS, several
AMERICAN WHITE PELICANS, DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANTS and
TURKEY VULTURES, as well as 1 EASTERN PHOEBE.

Mick McHugh found a LEAST SANDPIPER in the Sundance Area of Melvern Lake
(Osage County, KS) on March 6th, and just north of the town of New Strawn,
(Coffey County, KS) found a very early GRASSHOPPER SPARROW.

Mike Gearhart reports from Marais De Cygne Wildlife Area (Linn County, KS)
on March 6th, 60-plus COMMON SNIPE, 2 EASTERN PHOEBES, and a
PRAIRIE FALCON, which was seen in the Reclaimed Mine Land south of
La Cygne Lake.

At Hillsdale Lake (Miami County, KS) on February 27th, Steve Rhoades found
2 LESSER YELLOWLEGS.

On March 6th, single PURPLE MARTINS were reported from eastern Jackson
County, MO and from Wichita (Sedgwick County, KS).
