Several reporters describe movements of waterfowl into the state. In
northeastern
South Dakota, Dan and Erika Tallman observed PINTAIL, GADWALL, COMMON
GOLDENEYE, REDHEADS, AMERICAN WIGEON and SNOW, CANADA and
WHITE-FRONTED GEESE on March 6 in Brown County. Gene Bauer made the
following observations at Lake Herman (Lake County) on February 27-28: SNOW

and CANADA GEESE, REDHEADS, LESSER AND GREATER SCAUP,
BUFFLEHEADS, MALLARDS, RUDDY and RINGNECKED DUCKS, and HOODED
MERGANSERS. His raptor observations included a PRAIRIE FALCON and ROUGH-
LEGGED and RED-TAILED HAWKS.

Below Oahe Dam in central South Dakota, Ricky Olson observed MALLARDS,
GOLDENEYES, COMMON and RED-BREASTED MERGANSERS, AMERICAN
WIGEON, GREEN-WINGED TEAL, GADWALLS, and PINTAILS. Ricky also reports
a fairly large concentration of gulls, including RING-BILLED and HERRING
GULLS,
around Oahe Dam and two BREWER'S BLACKBIRDS at his Fort Pierre feeder. Also

near Oahe Dam, Doug Backlund has been observing LONG-EARED OWLS in cedar

Also in central South Dakota, George Prisbee observed a white-phase
GYRFALCON
on February 17 on Highway 34 in Stanley County. On March 2, Donna Yuill
observed two groups of SANDHILLS CRANES in Sully County, one group of 50-
100 birds and a second of 2-3 dozen cranes.

Sand Lake National Wildlife Refuge in Brown County will hold their BALD
EAGLE
Day on Sunday, March 28.
